Chapter 37: The Magical Tournament
“… Mixed Race Magical Tournament!”

Everyone starts talking to each other in confusion.
“What does he mean by that?” Leo asks.
“Hahaha… It sounds like they are trying to make us race against each other. I don’t get what’s magical about it though. It would be so fun! I will win for sure, at least against you two!” Ryan says while laughing.
I don’t want to say out loud, but are you an idiot, Ryan? He obviously doesn’t mean race like that.
Though I will win for sure if there will be an actual race…
“As you can guess by the name itself, the participants in this tournament will be students from all the four races: Humans, Elves, Vampires, and Beastkins,” He says.
“What? It means that?” Ryan says, clearly surprised.
“And well, again, as mentioned in the name, the participants will compete against each other using magical powers…” Professor Winde announces.
The auditorium erupts with noises again.
“Compete with each other!?” Leo exclaims loudly in surprise.
“With magic!?” Ryan says, bewildered.
What the heck is he saying?
Even if I overlook the competing part, none of us present here can use magic! One should be at least level 2 or 3 to even unlock Magic and learning it comes after that.
And this is the case with me right now…
“Please, calm down everyone!” Professor Winde says in a strong voice.
Silence fell again.
“I know what you all are wondering so please, allow me to explain myself,” he says.
“I will first clear up the doubt as of how the magical powers are going to be used. As everyone knows, there are only two ways to access magic, first is leveling up in the system and the second is by using the core stones of a secondary system towers.”
“And this was going to be announced in a press conference tomorrow by the Elfish and Human foreign ministers but I will tell it to you all now…”
“With the help of the Elves in our long research, we have finally been able to properly process and stabilize the Core Stones! Magic can be accessed by anyone now!” Principle Winde says in a loud voice.
Everyone in the Auditorium gasps in shock together except the three princesses and their bodyguards sitting behind.
Unlike System Information Stones (SIS) which are given by the secondary system towers themselves after the fusion of systems, the only way to get your hands on the Core Stones is by extracting them manually.
As their name suggests, these stones are found at the core of the secondary system towers. And as Principal Winde just said, one can easily access magic using these stone but well, the risk to use them is extremely high.
Core Stones are so unstable that the magical powers it releases exceed way above the limit of what a Human body can take at Level 1, causing Magical Poisoning and finally death.
In fact, the only race infatuated with the idea of using Core stones to access Magic is Humans. Other races just level up to get it.
But still, for them to be able to stabilize the Core Stones basically means magic access without any consequences…
Even with the help of the Elves, it’s a major leap of progress for humankind.
This is probably the most shocking and surprising news to everyone present here but unlike before, no one is making any noise now. All of us are listening intently to the Principal.
“But as you all know, accessing magic and using them are two entirely different things. Now that we have the means to access magic, you will need to learn how to use it as well.
“And even though I know how to do so, teaching all of you will be impossible for a single person. So, this Magical Tournament is our solution to this problem.
“The students coming from the other countries are already well versed in the basics of magic. And in this tournament, various mixed-race teams will be formed.
“These individuals will be placed in teams with you together and teach you whatever they know about magic as well as practice it along with you. And to help with anything else, teachers are available.
“Now, the rules and specifications of this tournament will be informed to you by your class teachers. And also, please note this that participation is compulsory.”
What? It is compulsory? But won’t there be too many people then?
“This is revolutionary! Humans using magic even at Level one…” Leo says in an awe-filled voice.
“Damn! I always wanted to use magic. This is like a dream come true!” Ryan says excitedly.
It looks like no one except me is thinking about this. Everyone looks really excited and happy.
“Now that the announcements are done, let’s hear out our guests, shall we?” Principal Winde says with a smile before walking away from the lectern.
From the people seated behind, Princess Ilyrana and her guard stands up and gracefully walks to the lectern. Even from this far, I can trace the curves of her body.

Suddenly, pink light bursts in front of my eyes.

Suddenly, the sound of someone running resounds in the auditorium making the princess stop speaking and in the next, a man dresses in the security uniform enters the stage.
He quickly runs to Principal and whispers something in his ears.
“Hey, isn’t that the guy who guards the gate?” Ryan asks.
“Yeah, it is,” I answer.
Immediately, Principal Winde stands up from his seat and quickly walks up to the lectern himself.
“Excuse me, Ilyrana,” he says to the princess.
Ilyrana politely steps aside from the lectern before he speaks into the mike, addressing us.
“Due to an emergency, this program is canceled. I am also declaring a holiday for the next two days,” he says in an urgent tone.
Wait, what the fuck?
Everyone is looking really confused over this sudden cancellation of the program and also the declaration of two days’ holiday.
“I want you all to calmly empty the auditorium and return to your homes… as fast as possible.”
Me, Leo and Ryan look at each other’s faces…
I think we all have guessed that something bad has happened just now.

“Expel him? What rules are you talking about anyway?” Principal Steele asks with her eyebrows raised.
I just stare at Neustadt in disbelief.
What is this fucker saying?
“Oh, so many, professor…” Neustadt says while being unable to hide the excitement from his voice.
“I caught this boy beating Johnny Bristow who is, you know, the son of Mr. William Bristow,” he tells her meaningfully.
“I did that to save Luke!” I say loudly.
“Shut up, liar!” Neustadt says even louder.
He waits and looks at principal Steele’s face, clearly expecting her to expel me instantly.
“Okay, violence. And the other rules he broke?” She asks simply, showing no particular reaction Neustadt was obviously expecting.
“O-Other rules? But professor, Mr. William is—”
“Please tell me the other rules he broke, professor,” Principal Steele says while cutting in between.
Neustadt looks a bit shocked by the principal taking what he probably expected his biggest weapon, lightly.
“Y-Yes, well, he threatened to kill Johnny as well! A-And he also beat up another student so badly that he fainted from it. From the looks of it, that boy got some serious injuries as well! I even had to send him to the infirmary,” he again tells her strongly.
This time, her expressions sharpen and she moves her upper body a bit forward on the chair. I can feel her gaze from the top to the bottom of my body. It feels as if she is doing my scanning or something.
Even Neustadt looks a bit happier to see the reaction he was expecting. But…
She just looks at me for a second more, before leaning back on her chair again.
“Anything else or is that all?” she simply asks.
Neustadt is looking greatly perplexed now. Well, I am greatly surprised as well, to be honest.
“B-But professor, that boy was really badly hurt. I even have witnesses against this one. A trustable source even told me that he was kicking his fainted body as well!” Neustadt says intensely.

Well, with how happy and jubilant he was before, it must be a major blow to him that such a strict principal will only give me the “talk” after beating two people up.
Seriously, even though I am extremely confused, I feel like laughing now.
“This… This abusive, vulgar and violent bast— student deserved to be kicked out of the school! This is unjust! I am actually doing him a favor by not calling the police right now! I DEMAND HIS EXPULSION! NOW!” Neustadt yells angrily.
But Principal Steele’s expressions do not change in the slightest. It is almost like she is not even hearing Neustadt.
“Please maintain the decorum of the Principal’s office, Professor Neustadt. And I didn’t say that I won’t punish him. I just want to talk to him privately first before deciding what to do. So, leave him to me and please go attend to your class,” she says calmly.
“But… He…” Neustadt says moving his gaze from me to the principal and to me again.
I can tell that he really wants to see me get thrown out of the school live.
This bastard…
“Fine… But I hope you expulse him to set an example for the other troublemakers of the school.”
He says before giving me a last hateful glare and leaving the room while closing the door with a bang.
For a few seconds, I wait for Professor Steele to start asking me things but to my confusion, she doesn’t even look at me and just start doing something on the computer placed in front of her desk.
I continue to stand like this for a few minutes.
“Ehh… excuse me, professor?” I finally ask, growing impatient.
“Yes?” she looks up from the computer.
“Eh… Will I be expulsed or not?” I ask, trying to sound as polite as I can.
“Well, no,” she answers in a matter-of-factly tone.
Really?
A great relief spread inside me.
Sigh… but still.
I can already guess what my punishment is going to be then… Suspension.
Well, even though being suspended for a while is way better than expulsion, it will become a tough situation for me.
“How many weeks would will my suspension last, Professor?” I ask in a low voice.
“What suspension? I am not suspending you either…” she says.
No suspension?
“What? Then how are you going to punish me?” I ask in confusion.
Please don’t tell me that you are planning something worse than expulsion or suspension…
“You know, you are actually really unlucky,” she tells me.
Wait, where did that come from? What about my punishment?
“Umm… I am?” I say while looking at her in confusion.
“Yes, you are. I was just checking the security footage from the grounds just now to find out what actually happened down there, you see?” she says.

Damn! I totally forgot about the cameras around the school! It can be totally proven that Pig was the one beating Luke, not me.
You piece of shit, Neustadt. What will you do now?
“Yes! I told you that I didn’t do anything wrong! You can see for your—”

The principal gives out a sigh making me stop in the middle of my triumphant declaration. She then gestures me to look on her computer screen.
Curiously, I move forward towards her desk and peek on the video playing there on the computer.
From the bunch of agitated students standing there, I can tell that this video of the ground before but to my shock, only a portion of the crowd which was there is visible.
What the fuck!?
The middle part of this circular crowd formation, where Pig and his bodyguards were beating Luke is not visible here at all.
Suddenly, from the corner of the screen, I come inside the school gate and stare at the direction of the crowd. The next moment, I start running towards the crowd and my body vanishes just before it jumps up in the air to deliver a flying kick to pig.
Damn it…
“I-Isn’t there any other cameras there? Can we see this from another angle?” I ask in frustration.
“There are other cameras but they don’t show this at all,” she answers.
What the actual fuck!?
“And this is why you are unlucky. Though in cases like these, I should listen to the teacher present there and give you punishment according to what he told me but… I am not blind to not see the truth myself,” she says.
“You can see? ” I ask, surprised.
“Yes. Remember when professor Neustadt told me that you had a “brawl” and that you had beaten up of two students in that, I looked at you closely?” she asks.
“Yes. What of it?”
“Well, I was looking for the signs of a fight on your body. Your clothes are perfectly clean, there is not even a single bruise or cut anywhere. And I am sorry to say this, but you don’t look like someone who could beat up two guys without even getting your clothes dirty,” She answers with a shrug.
“Y-Yes I didn’t fight anyone!” I say quickly.
Damn… I am actually really impressed that she was observing these things as well.
“I agree. But still, you will be receiving punishment…” She tells me in a grave tone.

“But why? You know I didn’t do anything!?” I ask loudly in disbelief.
“I know, but there is no proof of that. And a teacher just told me things against you. He even said there are witnesses and I don’t think that he is lying. Well, with that Bristow boy involved, I can see how things are working here,” she says.
Damn…
“You don’t need to worry much though, I will just have you serve an hour long detentions with me after school as your punishments. Though I will have to keep the punishment long enough to keep Professor Neustadt from making a fuss about it,” she says.
“Detention with you?”
“Yes, and for three months at that. You can consider them as private lessons with me if you want. I can talk to your mother if you want…”
“No need for that!” I say quickly.
Even mentioning this to my mother would be bad. And detention is far better than expulsion. It’s just an hour extra anyway.
And having private lessons with Professor Steele…
“I am fine with it,” I answer.
“Good. You can go now. But wait till the next lesson to go inside your classroom. Professor Neustadt will surely ask you about this and it is better if it is me who informs him,” she says.
“Yes, I know…”

Chapter 72 – Lady in Black

This whole place seemed to be some membership-only luxury club because most people have some restraint in their actions, giving other people a decent amount of respect.
Max also recalled that all of them held a black card before they went in. At that time he didn’t think much of it as he didn’t know he needed it.
“Why did they allow me in then?”
“Forget about it. I don’t need to know.”
From their adventures, going from places to places before they came here, Max became used to encountering weird things like this.
There was even one time when they saw a person falling down a building while screaming, but after the person hit the ground, he just stood up and walked away like nothing happened.
They pitied the person who might have been dreaming about that. It was like his dreams when he dreamt of falling from the railing of the stairs in a skyscraper building.
Max couldn’t remember why he fell, and what happened after that. He only knew it did happen. That’s how dreams work. Sometimes, it’s completely unrealistic and unexplainable.
What Max learned from staying in the dream realm for a few hours? Max wasn’t entirely sure. They tried to find any clue about what time it was right now, but they couldn’t even find a single watch, not even just a date or the current year.
What Max learn for being in here for quite some time was that if there’s something weird happened, ignore it as illogical things happen all the time here.
Going back from the balcony, Max went up to the third floor as there were stairs available and Little Dou already went up ahead of him.
The third floor was like a typical luxury hotel hallway, carpet floors, doors with key card locks, and a quiet atmosphere. The first thing Max saw when he arrived was the concierge right in front of him.
Employees were also in there, and as usual, they didn’t care about him, acting like he doesn’t exist, even when he was in front of them.
Max and Little Dou found out that unless you speak to them, they will not initiate a conversation in any way.
There were only two ways Max can go from here, the left or right hallway, and both looked the same. There were probably just rooms for people who wanted to stay the night here.
‘What a convenient idea, even if this is only in the dream realm.’

“There’s nothing in here. It’s just full of rooms. Little Dou, let’s go back. Maybe see the pool area!”
Seeing nothing after going through the hallways, Max couldn’t help being excited from the thought of going to the pool with a lot of beauties.
Walking down the stairs, Max suddenly stopped his tracks.
A beautiful lady slowly walked by him, going towards the third floor where he came from. Max only stared at her the whole time until she disappeared in his view.
“Little Dou, change of plan. Let’s go up!”
Max’s original plan was to head straight for the pool to get close to the beautiful ladies and maybe pick one of them to use his skills on.
After all, this was just a dream. Max can try all the fantasies he had on his mind, not needing to consider any repercussions for his actions.

Max knew that there was an elevator on one of the open rooms of this floor. He tried using it to go up while he was exploring around, but it required a specific keycard to use it.
He even ‘borrowed’ multiple keycards from the concierge employees but none of it worked. In the end, he could only give up on using it.
“There!”
When they reached her, the elevator was already closing. From the looks of it, they won’t be able to reach her.
Right on this second, the elevator stopped closing.
“We got in! Haa, haa, haa.’
Max panted as he leaned on the elevator wall. They ran as fast as they can to reach the lady, but her position was just too far.
Knowing that they wouldn’t be able to reach her, Max stopped the time. That was enough for them to sneeze in the half-shut door.
When they were traveling everywhere the Dream Realm, seeing many beautiful places, Max took the opportunity to test some of his skills with Little Dou on his side, doing everything she can to help him out.

While waiting, Max admired the look of the lady in front of him. Long wavy red hair, it was different from his hair color. The lady’s had a darker shade of red compared to him.

Max and Little Dou were currently outside a huge white building. The building was full of one-way glass wall around it, making it impossible to look at what was happening inside.
It was a few stories high located in a massive plot of land. It was still currently dark outside, but this place seemed active.

Max and Little Dou followed people in here. They saw a lot of people going in this direction that they became curious about why they were going here.
Joining people walking inside, Max was didn’t know what to think about it. There were round tables with luxurious sofa chairs and a large dance floor right in front of a massive stage.
The room was dark, with lights flashing everywhere. There was also sensual music that people were dancing to.
People seemed to have fun, dancing, drinking, chatting, and some people were doing some other things elsewhere.
The glossy white stairway with a carpet on it was very striking. Max and Little Dou went up, following some people as they wanted to see what it’s all about.
Max already had an idea about what the second floor was for, from what he saw after he got in.
Precisely the same as what he pictured in his mind, the middle part of the second floor was removed, giving the people on this floor a direct view of the stage and the dance floor below.
But there were mostly small rooms positioned side by side with another one-way glass window so that the people can watch the happenings below at the same time, have their privacy.
The rooms all together were in a U shaped formation. It acted as a barrier for the removed floor in the middle. While the remaining side that didn’t have rooms lined up had glass railing covering it.
Max can directly lean on the luxurious railing, overlooking the fantastic view of the whole dance floor.
Occasionally, he sees some attractive group of ladies laughing and drinking, considering approaching them later.
“So it’s possible that everything that happens in here would be in the dreams of some people?”
[Yes!]
“So if I dreamt about dancing down there, that would mean if someone were watching in my position right now, they would see me dancing down there?”

After a while of watching people down below, Max turned to the tall doors behind him. It was partly open, so Max only needed to walk in.
